Detailed description of Bayou Oaks Golf Course, South Course

Bayou Oaks Golf Course, South Course is a public 18-hole golf course located in New Orleans, LA.

The South Course at Bayou Oaks Golf Course opened on April 21, 2017. The course was designed by Rees Jones. The course reportedly cost $26 million dollars, and this was on land that was already owned. Hot Damn!

The City Park golf facility consisting of 4 courses was wiped out by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Three years later, in 2008, the facility opened The North Course. The South Course is the second course resurrected at The City Park. The South Course sits on land that was previously part of City Park’s East and West courses. About 300 oaks remain on the new South Course.

The South Course will be considerably more upscale and expensive than the North Course.

The two courses versus the original four courses have a 316 acres footprint compared to the 508 acres of golf courses before the storm.

Day 40 - 100 days, 100 courses (Monday, April 22, 2019)

Day 40 was an absolutely gorgeous day in New Orleans and I had the pleasure of spending it playing Bayou Oaks. To call Bayou Oaks a muni is slander. Although it is, in reality, a muni, it is a gem.

An aside on Bayou Oakes is that the course is used as a funding source for youth programs in the local area which is pretty cool.

The course is part of City Park, which includes the New Orleans Museum of Art. When my round was over I had some time so I went over to NOMA (as we locals call it) and although the museum was closed the sculpture garden was open. A very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon - 18 holes of golf followed by wandering through some very interesting art.

The evening was capped off by going to a Baby Cakes (AAA Baseball) game. It was me and about 600 of my closest friends watching the Baby Cakes take on the Storm Chasers. I had the unique opportunity to sit in the front row behind the catcher which was a lot of fun.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again
